The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office urges citizens to be vigilant and to keep vehicles locked. Locking a vehicle's doors is the simplest and most effective action that you can take to prevent breaking and entering into your vehicle. It's not guaranteed to stop a thief, but it's the best deterrent. If you must leave anything of value in your vehicle, keep it out of sight and do not leave loose change out in plain view in cup holders or ash trays.

Watch as this person walks away after finding that the car door is locked.

If you vehicle has been broken into, call the Sheriff's Office at 301-475-8008.
