The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Division, assisted by a support team and patrol deputies, conducted an undercover operation with the intent of targeting websites that are frequently used to solicit prostitution in St. Mary’s County. Beyond the quality of life issues which are associated with prostitution, other serious criminal acts, such as human trafficking, sexual assault, drug distribution and robbery, are known to have a prostitution nexus.

Najja Monet Sellers (Age 19 of Anchorage, AK) was arrested for “Solicitation of Prostitution” for agreeing to provide a sex act for money.

Human trafficking is a serious and real crime facing our community. An early indication from the arrests listed above is there may be a human trafficking nexus. All related reports and information will be forwarded to the Annapolis Office of the FBI for further examination and possible investigation.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, will hold a second Human Trafficking information awareness gathering on January 22th, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Cornerstone Church is located at 23075 Town Creek Drive in California, MD. Additional information will be provided in the near future.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to contact us with information regarding any criminal or suspicious activity in our communities, as well as thank them for their continued support and partnership.

On December 14, 2015, at approximately 8:50 p.m patrol units from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Three Notch Road in the area of Baptist Church Road. Deputies arrived on scene and found a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck and a 2004 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle involved in a collision.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  Initial investigation revealed the Chevrolet truck, operated by Joseph Goldsborough, age 31, of Leonardtown, was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Three Notch Road onto Baptist Church Road.  Goldsborough failed to yield the right of way to the Suzuki motorcycle, operated by George Rhoads, age 46, of Leonardtown, which was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road.  The motorcycle then struck the passenger side of the pickup truck.  Rhoads was transported by ambulance to Suburban Hospital where he remains in critical condition.  Goldsborough was not injured in the collision.  He was subsequently found to be under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.  At this time, both speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any events leading up to the collision is asked to call Sgt. William Watters #188 at 301-475-4040.
