Burglary- On July 1, 2018, Dep. T. Snyder investigated a burglary in the 23000 block of Hilltop Drive, in Bushwood.  Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the residence and removed property.  CASE# 34601-18

Burglary-  On July 2, 2018, Dep. Budd investigated a burglary in the 18000 block of Premier Lane in Lexington Park.  Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the residence; at this time nothing has been reported missing.  CASE# 34798-18

Theft-  On July 2, 2018, Cpl. Beishline investigated a theft in the 26000 block of Three Notch Road in Loveville.  Unknown suspect(s) removed a rear tag to a vehicle parked in the area that was for sale.   CASE# 34801-18

Theft-  On July 2, 2018, Dep. Budd investigated a theft in the 44000 block of Deerfield Lane in Leonardtown.  The complainant reported the expiration sticker on the vehicle registration had been removed.   CASE# 34841-18

Burglary to Motor Vehicle-  On July 3, 2018, DFC. D. Smith investigated a burglary to motor vehicle reported in the 24000 block of Old Three Notch Road in Hollywood.  The complainant advised a wallet containing various items was removed from the vehicle.   CASE# 35124-18

Burglary-  On July 3, 2018, Dep. Henry investigated a burglary to a shed  in the 47000 block of Dixon Court in Lexington Park.  Unknown suspect(s) entered the victim's shed and two saws were reported stolen.  CASE# 35096-18

Assault-  On July 4, 2018, Cpl. J. Beyer investigated a reported assault in the 43000 block of Alton Lane in California.  The victim advised while in the parking lot, a black male approached and struck the victim in the face; the victim stated the unknown suspect fled on foot after the victim kicked the suspect.  CASE# 35306-18

Theft-  On July 4, 2018, Dep. Payne investigated a reported theft in the 21000 block of Windsor Drive in Lexington Park.  The complainant advised within the last three months unknown suspect(s) removed an orange Go-Cart from the bed of the victim's truck.  CASE# 35284-18

Burglary to Motor Vehicle- On July 6, 2018, DFC. McCuen responded to the 45000 block of Worth Avenue in California for a reported burglary to motor vehicle.  An unknown suspect was observed in the parking lot entering unlocked vehicles.  The suspect is described as a white male, wearing jeans and work boots.  The victim advised upon returning to the victim's vehicle a male was observed shutting the car door; the unknown suspect then fled on foot.  No items were taken from the victim's vehicle. Theft-  On July 7, 2018, Cpl. Connelly responded to the 43000 block of Airport View Drive in Hollywood for the reported theft.  The victim reported the rear registration plate to the victim's vehicle stolen.  The victim was unsure where the actual theft occurred.  CASE# 35982-18

Burglary-  On July 7, 2018, Cpl. Maloy responded to the 38000 block of Ted Circle in Avenue for the reported burglary.  The victim reported an unknown suspect entered the unsecured residence; nothing was reported missing from the burglary.  CASE# 35835-18

Burglary-  On July 7, 2018, Cpl. Ruest responded to the 22000 block of Oxford Court in Lexington Park for the reported burglary.  The victim advised a known suspect entered the victim's unsecured shed and various tools were reported stolen.   Case# 36015-18




Identities Sought for Theft Suspects

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in identifying three suspects in recent thefts.

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 7:50 p.m. and again on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the California Lowe's Home Improvement store, two suspects committed thefts by making fraudulent returns. The two selected merchandise and brought the items to the return counter where they received cash for items that they did not purchase. On Friday, July 6, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at the California Lowe's Home Improvement store, the suspect committed a theft through a fraudulent return. The suspect entered the store, picked up an item that she did not pay for and returned it for cash. Assault-  On July 2, 2018, Cpl. Stone responded to the 46000 block of Columbus Drive in Lexington Park, for the reported assault.  The victim advised Marcus Isaiah Peterson, age 29 of Lexington Park, had assaulted the victim by shoving the victim on a couch, and scratching the victim in the face while the two were involved in an argument.  Peterson was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 34912-18

Theft-  On July 3, 2018, Dep. Assault-  On July 3, 2018, DFC. J. Davis responded to the 23000 block of Old Pine Court in California, for a reported assault.  The victim advised Ewin Theodore Verdict Jr. age 62 of Lexington Park, assaulted the victim by pinning the victim against a wall, and strangling the victim.  The victim displayed visible signs of injury.  Verdict Jr. was located, arrested, and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 35178-18

Violation of Protective Order-  On July 3, 2018, Dep. Ball responded to the 26000 block of Fielding Road in Hollywood, for the reported disturbance.  Investigation determined Regina Danielle Huff, age 42 of Hollywood, was the respondent in an active protective order, and was prohibited from being at the Fielding Road address.  Huff was arrested and charged with Violate Exparte/Protective Order.  CASE# 35203-18

Furniture Thief's Identity Requested

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public's assistance in identifying the person pictured. On Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 9:53 p.m. the suspect entered the Weis grocery store on Point Lookout Road in Callaway to use the Coinstar machine. The machine was out of order, so she left the store and then drove her car to the front of the building where patio furniture was on display. The suspect loaded a box of patio furniture into her car and drove away. Motor Vehicle Collision Update

On July 11, 2018, at approximately 3:00 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 46000 block of Yorktown Road in Lexington Park, for the reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival deputies located a 2003 GMC Envoy operated by Linda Glaser, age 72 of Lexington Park, in the roadway. Glaser was traveling south on Yorktown Road in the area of Suwanne Place, where an ice cream truck was stopped on the opposite side of the road.  As Glaser was passing the ice cream truck, a 10-year-old juvenile pedestrian ran into the roadway from behind the ice cream truck. The juvenile was struck by Glaser’s vehicle and sustained incapacitating injuries. Glaser stopped for the collision and Glaser was then assaulted by an individual(s) in the neighborhood; that case is currently under investigation.  The juvenile was transported by Trooper 7 to a local trauma center; Glaser was transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for incapacitating injuries. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and continued the accident investigation.
Updated information: At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Gasoline Thief's Identity Sought

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is seeking the identity of the person pictured who has been siphoning gasoline from Board of Education vans.
Between Saturday, June 2 and Thursday, July 12, 2018 between the hours of 9 to 11 p.m., the suspect has been siphoning gasoline from vans at the Bethune Center on Colton Point Road in Bushwood. The suspect appears to be a thin black male in his 50s who is driving a blue Ford Ranger extended cab pickup truck with faded roof paint.

Theft Suspects' Identities Needed

On Monday, July 9, 2018, at 5 p.m. two suspects took a half gallon of liquor by hiding it in the female's shoulder bag at the McKay's Foodland store on Merchants Lane in Leonardtown. On Friday, July 13, 2018, at 1:10 p.m. the suspect pushed an air-conditioning unit in a shopping cart past all points of sale at the California Walmart store on Miramar Way without paying for it. Minor Crimes can be Reported Online

In addition to calling the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, citizens can also report minor crimes online. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Online Reporting System (COLRS) can be used to report minor crimes where there is no suspect information or other investigative leads.

Virginia Man Indicted in Liquor Store Robbery

A St. Mary’s County Grand Jury has indicted a Virginia man on several charges stemming from a liquor store robbery in February.

Markeith Devon Wills, 40 of Alexandria, Va., has been charged with Armed Robbery, First-Degree Assault and Theft after the facts of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation were presented to the Grand Jury on July 11, 2018.

On the evening of Feb. 13, 2018, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Officers responded to Lighthouse Liquors in Charlotte Hall for the report of an armed robbery. The investigation was continued by the Criminal Investigations Division.

Wills entered Lighthouse Liquors and demanded money. A brief struggle ensued between Wills and the victim. Wills was able to flee from the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim sustained injuries that required immediate medical attention.

Currently, Wills is incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center for an unrelated matter.

Assault-  On July 6, 2018, Dep. Forbes responded to the 21000 block of Susan Lane in Lexington Park for a reported assault.  The victim advised Justine Michelle Brannon, age 43 of Lexington Park, had assaulted the victim by throwing a cellphone at the victim which struck the victim in the head.  Brannon was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 35640-18

Drug Arrests-  On July 6, 2018, DFC. Steinbach conducted a traffic stop in the 25000 block of Loveville Road, in Loveville.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as Anthony Donald Forbes, age 56, of Oxon Hill.  While conducting the traffic stop a passenger, Albert Sylvester June, age 73 of Waldorf, was observed attempting to conceal a suspected CDS smoking device in his hand.  A search of the vehicle located a second metal smoking device; both smoking devices contained suspected cocaine residue.  Forbes was arrested and charged with traffic charges as well as CDS Possession-Not Marijuana and CDS Possession-Paraphernalia.  June was arrested and charged with CDS Possession-Not Marijuana and CDS Possession-Paraphernalia.  CASE# 35722-18 (No Photograph Available of June)

Assault/Resisting Arrest-  On July 6, 2018, Cpl. Handy observed what appeared to be a disabled vehicle in the 26000 block of Sandgate's Road in Mechanicsville.  Once Cpl. Handy stopped to provide assistance, he realized the vehicle had been involved in an accident.  Cpl. Handy made contact with the driver, James Stephen Gass, age 26 of Leonardtown.  Gass was uncooperative and refused to remain at the scene of the accident.  Cpl. Handy attempted to detain Gass, at which time Gass assaulted Cpl. Handy by pushing and punching him.  Gass was ultimately taken into custody.  Gass also purposely exposed himself to a victim attempting to provide care after his motor vehicle accident, and once at the St. Mary's County Detention Center Gass attempted to assault a correctional officer.  Gass was charged with Assault 2nd Degree (2 counts), Indecent Exposure, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. 7/5/18- Dep. Sidorowicz stopped a vehicle in the 25000 block of Three Notch Road in Hollywood for various traffic infractions.  The operator of the vehicle Patrick Wayne Donovan, age 50 of California, was determined to be operating under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Donovan was discovered to have numerous pills in his possession suspected to be Oxycodone, Amphetamines, and Alaprazolam; suspected CDS paraphernalia was also located.  Donovan was charged with Driving Vehicle While Impaired by a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving-Attempting to Drive Vehicle While So Far Impaired by Drugs & Alcohol Can not Drive Safely, three counts of CDS Possession-Not Marijuana and three counts of CDS Possession-Paraphernalia.  CASE# 35612-18

Assault-  On July 8, 2018, Dep. Shelko responded to the 28000 block of Woodburn Hill Road in Mechanicsville, for the reported disturbance.  The victim advised Anthony James Campbell, age 35 of Mechanicsville, assaulted the victim during an argument over the shirt the victim was wearing.  According to the victim, Campbell began to try and physically take off the shirt and obtained a knife and began to cut the shirt off the victim.  Campbell was arrested and charged with assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 36288-18

Alcohol Violations:  On July 10, 2018, DFC. Violation of Protective Order-  On July 11, 2018, Dep. Theft-  On July 12, 2018, Dep. Theft/Trespass-  On July 13, 2018, Dep. Forbes responded to the 45000 block of Miramar Way in California in reference to a check the welfare.  Contact was made with Todd Matthew Evans, age 41 with no fixed address.  While on-scene Dep. Forbes became aware Evans had stolen items from Walmart.  Evans was arrested and charged with Theft. A few hours later, Dep. Payne responded to the 22000 block of Three Notch Road, in Lexington Park, for a reported trespassing.  Investigation determined Evans was issued a notice not to trespass previously, however had returned to the area and was asking citizens to purchase him alcohol.  Evans was arrested and charged with Trespass-Private Property.  CASE# 37165-18/37210-18

Sheriff Welcomes Bell Back to the Agency

Lotti Bell has returned to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office as its new Fiscal Manager. Bell started in her new position on July 13, 2018 after working for several years in the St. Mary’s County Government Finance Office.

As the Fiscal Manager for the Sheriff’s Office, Bell’s duties include the budgeting and administration of the finances for the $41 million law-enforcement agency, which operates all day, every day.
    
Bell originally started with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 as a Fiscal Specialist III and two years later was promoted to the Fiscal Services Supervisor.
In July 2002, Bell was then promoted to the position of Budget Analyst in the St. Mary’s County Government Finance Office where she continued her duties until returning to the Sheriff’s Office this year.

Sheriff Tim Cameron said, “The Sheriff’s Office is very pleased to have Lotti Bell back at the agency. She is a consummate professional who is already well familiar with the unique duties and operations of the office. Lotti continues the diligent fiscal oversight expected at the Sheriff’s Office as we continue to meet the needs of the citizens of St. Mary’s County.” 

A St. Mary’s County native, Lotti Bell has been married to her husband Mark J. Bell for more than 25 years and they have an adult son.

Lotti Bell earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Summa Cum Laude, with a Minor in Finance from the University of Maryland University College in 2015. In January 2007, Bell received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting from the College of Southern Maryland and a Certificate in Management Development in May 2007.

On July 20, 2018, at approximately 3:00 A.M. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 46000 block of Columbus Drive in Lexington Park, for the report of shots fired.  Preliminary investigation determined a vehicle and residence had been shot with an unknown firearm. No injuries were reported, and the suspect(s) fled the area prior to arrival of law enforcement.

Armed Robberies Under Investigation

On July 22, 2018, at approximately 11:30 P.M. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21000 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, for the report of a robbery.  Two victims reported while at the PNC Bank ATM, two black males approached and one had a firearm.  The suspects demanded property and the victims complied.  The suspects then fled the area on foot.

On July 23, 2018, at approximately 12:30 A.M. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 22000 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park, for a reported robbery.  Preliminary investigation determined two black males entered the Wawa, and one suspect brandished a firearm and demanded property.  The employee/victim complied and both suspects then fled the establishment on foot.

Members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department take Peg Gowen of Leonardtown out of the Craft Guild Shop's parking lot, which was flooded by a swollen McIntosh Run. 

Deputy Richard Forbes and Cpl. William Ray of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office check on Peg Gowen of Leonardtown and Judy Dillon of Hollywood after being escorted out of the flooded parking lot. 

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department assisted two citizens on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Craft Guild Shop off Route 5 in Leonardtown. Two women, Peg Gowen of Leonardtown and July Dillon of Hollywood were moving merchandise at the craft coop's store out of the way of rising waters when floodwaters rose up behind them and inundated the parking lot. A good Samaritan called emergency services to assist them and the women were safely escorted out of the parking lot.
