On April 4, 2016, at approximately 1:37 a.m., patrol units from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Piney Point Road and Drayden Road in Valley Lee, for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision. Members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Speed appears to be a factor in the collision, and the case remains under investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed, Mark Kyle Jones, age 25, of Leonardtown, was traveling northbound on Piney Point Road in a 1998 Honda Accord, when for unknown reasons, his vehicle left the roadway and overturned into a utility pole. Jones was located deceased in the vehicle. Speed appears to be a factor in the collision, and the case remains under investigation.
